One-of-a-Kind Pieces

I come up with these pieces by letting my hands guide me. My spontaneous interaction with medium gives birth to forms I never could have planned. The use of machinery and tools is so natural that they feel like an extension of my own body. I often read the pieces as a direct result of specific movements required by each tool or machinery. I call this specific function of movement motricity and I believe motricity is the force behind creativity in this work.

The work that comes from this process never fails to surprise me, even though the initial idea came from my own head. Once the final vision starts to emerge, I feel more comfortable, as if their very existence makes the world more recognizable and familiar.

Accomplices Series

These pieces show a connection between extremes through soft and curvy lines that could be tough and straightened if the objects in each side were pulled apart. Sometimes I think these pieces are a reflection of myself, and the conflict of my own internal duality. Other times I think it's an illustration of the necessary reconciliation that's a part of all relationships.

Sometimes, I think I am inspired by the contrast between opposing ideas: sculptural versus flat, red versus white, and hard versus heart. Ultimately, the aim of this work is to reconcile the opposites within myself.

This series was developed at Escola Massana, under the inspiring supervision of Ramón Puig Cuyàs.

Production Work

The concept for this line was born while I was earning my honours degree at RMIT.

The process for creating these pieces consists of cutting and folding paper, then trying to fit it into a place on the body where it looks and feels best. I call these places anatomic niches. Think of them as art installations for the body.

The work developed in Australia was greatly influenced by Mascha Moje, and supervised by Robert Baines.
